These six longish stories, about six different children on one day in a single street, blend and merge and yet could be treated quite separately. There's a careful multi-cultural mix and Jan Mark has picked up among her themes, fear of heights (overcome), first love (thwarted), loneliness and isolation (reversed) and phobia about wearing specs (almost cured). It's a low-key mix, but in its quiet way challenging and memorable for fully-fledged young readers.
